Shahana Moon

6.00 AM

My alarm wakes me up bright and early to start my day. After a quick shower, I grab some breakfast and pop on my gear as I head out the door for another day at work.

7.00 AM

I’m in the car by 7:00 AM to try and get ahead of the traffic, though that’s not always completely possible in Sydney! I like to listen to some upbeat music to really wake me up on my way to work but I’ll occasionally listen in on the daily news or an interesting podcast.

8.00 AM

By 8:00 AM I roll into the car park and make my way up to my desk. After I put away my lunch, I catch up on my emails and messages. I then spend some time looking over my meetings and tasks scheduled for the day and plan in any urgent or last-minute tasks that have cropped in.  Today I had a few emails and people to chase up, so I make sure to knocks those tasks off right off the bat to keep things moving.

9.30 AM

I head down to the café downstairs for a coffee with some friends, we all need a little bit more help waking up this morning! Its always great to catch up with people who may not work in the same team as you, it helps me break out of my little corner of Cochlear.

10.00 AM

I’m off to the lab for some mechanical testing. I’m doing a graduate rotation through the Sound Processors and Connectivity Team who design the sound processors that help enable our recipients to hear. I’m working as part the mechanical team and the goal of the testing I’m doing is evaluating potential suppliers for some of our future products.

12.30 PM

Its time for lunch. I make my way over to the nice open lunch area and have lunch with some colleagues. Lunch time is always bustling and it's great to catch up with others on non-work talk.

1.30 PM

After lunch its presentation time. I’ve been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to design an accessory for one of our upcoming products. It's great knowing the work I’m doing will have lasting impacts on the day-to-day lives of our recipients but we as a company would like to make absolutely certain that my design meets the needs of our recipients. The presentation I’m giving is a review of the design I’ve come up with and to seek feedback for improvements.

2.30 PM

I had a lot of great feedback on my design from my presentation. There’s quite a bit of work to do to refine my design, so I buckle down at my desk and churn through implementing the suggestions. It can feel like a bit of a setback, but its important for me to put the recipient front and centre of my focus so I try not to dwell on it too much. I know at the end of the day, all the setbacks I’m facing, and will no doubt overcome, will be worth it.

4.00 PM

It’s time to clock off from work. I like to keep my afternoons free so I can either meet up with some friends, go shopping or to the gym or bouldering. It’s so important to have something to look forward to after work. Today, I’m catching up with some close friends I haven’t seen for a while for dinner.

8.00 PM

After coming home, its time to relax and unwind from the day I’ve just had. It’s important for me to have some mental space from the hustle and bustle of my day-to-day work life. At home, I make sure I switch off completely from work. That means no checking emails or messages, they can wait till the next morning! After a quick shower, I play some videogames which is a nice way to disconnect.

10.00 PM

One last quick check of social media before I head to bed so I can do it all over again.
