Application Process & Interviews at BP Australia

Interviews were face to face, no video or phone interviews. Assessment centre was quite straightforward and there was an opportunity to meet people from the company outside of the interviewing process.

The interview process/assessments were quite simple for the Graduate role because I had already successfully participated in a more extensive process and assessments for a Summer Vacation role at the same company (online testing, group activity, technical interview and behavioural interview). Hence, the Graduate role only required an hour long panel interview discussion with two HR people and a business member.

Lengthy and thorough. Many steps to get to the interview stage, once at interview stage, recruitment was relatively straight forward.

Hired from vacation work - so interviewed for that role not a graduate position. Online application and testing, then assessment centre and interview.

Behavioural, leadership, motivations, learning style, experience, self-awareness, logic and reasoning, managing risk. Preference for first rotation role, interest in working overseas.

The questions were based around the company's values and behaviours as well as general questions regarding knowledge of the company.

Research and make sure you know the history, know the values and understand who you are applying to work for. Have passion for the values, don't apply if you aren't willing to demonstrate how these values link to you.

Be genuine - authentic and honest. Use the STAR method for answering behavioural questions. Consider other types of leadership (e.g. personal) in addition to team leadership. Consider the company's values (will be reflected in questions and excellent answers). Prepare for technical interview (case-based with additional scenarios/circumstances added). Check your self-awareness.

Understand the culture - reach out to people and ask questions about what it's like to work here. Tell them how you'll fit into the culture, more than how you would do the job. Be conscious of how you come across in a group assessment.
